‘Sex without consent is sexual abuse, before marriage and after marriage,’ says Pankaj Tripathi

Bollywood has shown the audience a few times the importance of consent before getting intimate through movies like Pink and Section 37. And while many people are still trying to understand the meaning of consent, actor Pankaj Tripathi seems to have gotten his lessons after working on web series Criminal Justice: Behind Closed Doors. He now understands why women stay mum about issues related to their married lives, from domestic abuse to sexual abuse. “It was unknown to me why women kept quiet when they went through some trauma in their personal life, they were tight-lipped when asked to share their problems. I, as a man, didn’t really know how to decode it,” Pankaj said. Also Read – Kaagaz: Pankaj Tripathi and Satish Kaushik’s film to reach the hinterlands of India through mobile digital theatres

He further added, “This issue exists in our society, whether we stay in liberal urban cities or places outside the city, so why not speak up. The show, through the story of Anu Chandra, portrayed by actor Kirti Kulhari, spotlights marital sexual abuse and the trauma the victim goes through behind closed doors. In the show, Pankaj is seen as a lawyer fighting Anu’s case.

He continued, “Especially with issues related to their married lives because clearly the society demands them to be locked in the closed doors of their homes. Through this show, we hope that more and more women are invoked to share their problems and take the right step for themselves.”

Pankaj along with stars including Pratik Gandhi, Vijay Varma, Pavail Gulati, Nakuul Mehta and Karan Tacker, has featured in a video which talks about the importance of consent before getting intimate. “Sex without consent is sexual abuse, before marriage and after marriage,” Pankaj says in the video.

Talking to Collider, Sam Hargrave said, “It wasn’t something (discussed) on set. As soon as it got mentioned, that thought of a sequel — because, I guess, Netflix was enjoying the dailies and things were coming together and people were like, ‘Oh, this could be…’. You know, you talk about all these things. Is it a franchise? Is it all these things? Who knows until the movie comes out and the audience responds. They’ll be the ones who decide. But it was talked about.” Also Read – Extraction: Randeep Hooda warns people against stepping out amidst lockdown with a still from his film

Sam Hargrave further explained, “As soon as it was, Joe brought up an interesting point that most of the time, you get a sequel. Rarely do you go back in time into prequels. […] You get the sense that Chris and Harbour have a great chemistry […] so we thought that was a very interesting way — if you were to go backwards in time — that you could play with the prequel to a story like this.” Well, this news will definitely make all Chris Hemsworth jump with joy.

The action-thriller, which also features Indian actors like Pankaj Tripathi, Randeep Hooda and Rudraksh Jaiswal, has been majorly shot in Ahmedabad, India. So, have you liked Extraction? Tweet and let us known @bollywood_life.
