Gurmeet Choudhary on Ramayan: People used to touch our feet at that time

Ramayan is one of the most retold Hindu mythological stories in Indian television. Apart from Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan that is currently being showered with all the love and appreciation, one more retelling of Hindu mythology was extremely popular that featured Gurmeet Choudhary and Debina Bonnerjee as Ram and Sita. Gurmeet and Debina were very adored for their portrayal of Lord Ram and Sita. And now, during an interview, the Khamoshiyan actor opened up that fans of the show used to think that they are really Lord Ram and Sita and would touch their feet. While talking to SpotBoyE, Gurmeet Choudhary said, “Ramayan became a hit over night. The show made us so popular, that people actually felt that we are Ram and Sita. They used to touch our feet and at that time, we were really young- around, 21-22.” Also Read – Ramayan: When Gurmeet Choudhary and Debina Bonnerjee swore to NEVER work with each other [Exclusive]

Well, it’s known that once an actor plays a mythological character in his/her career they are likely to be typecast in the same role for the longest time. Voicing his concerns, Gurmeet said, “I remember at that time whoever had done mythological shows had got typecast. It was not the audience but the industry used to typecast. So, before signing it, I had this thought in my mind that if I do a costume drama, then I may also get typecast. For me breaking that image was really important and I constantly thought what should I do after Ramayan.” Also Read – The Wife teaser: Gurmeet Choudhary and Sayani Datta play husband and wife in this chilling horror movie

Gurmeet opened up on what changed the audience’s perception of them. “So, while I was giving auditions for shows, Debina and I signed a reality show, titled Pati Patni Aur Woh. And I think that was for the first time when people saw us dancing in jeans and T-shirt,” the Punar Vivah actor told the entertainment portal.

Well, what do you have to say about Gurmeet’s honest confession? I was in my teens during that time and I do think they made for the perfect Lord Ram and Sita.
